Shot Composition and Standard Shots

DSC_0021

This would be an example of a close-up shot (CU)

It shows a character’s face and shoulders.

DSC_0022

This is an example of an extreme close up (ECU)

It shows only a part of a character’s face and fills the screen.

DSC_0002

This is an example of a long shot (LS) because it gives a broad view of the surroundings and conveys distance.

DSC_0018

Here we have an example of a medium shot (MS). It shows a character’s upper-body, arms, and head.

DSC_0049

This is an example of lead room because the object is pointing in a direction other than straight into the camera.

DSC_0005

Here we have the rule of thirds–where the image can be divided into nine equal parts.

DSC_0015

I would consider this a profile picture because the character is not looking directly into the camera but it can also be a medium shot.
